Danville

The town of Danville is in The San Ramon Valley of Contra Costa Country between Mt.Diablo to the East and the Las Trampas Hills to the West. Until the arrival of the railroad, it was a tiny little village. Considered one of the wealthiest suburbs of the Bay Area and known as “The Heart of the San Ramon Valley”, the area embraces exclusivity in its country clubs and some of the most expensive real estate in the nation. Originally a farming community, the Danville area is now a great place to shop, dine and play.

Danville has tried hard to preserve its historical buildings. The Village Theater offers live performances by local groups. Bridges Restaurant where Mrs. Doubtfire was filmed offering acres and acres of parks, The Iron Horse Trail for walking and biking between towns, or stay local and get your exercise on! Danville is both family friendly and pet friendly.

Danville is justifiably proud of its one time resident, playwright Eugene O’Neill. He & his wife lived in Danville after he won the Nobel Prize in Literature. A visit to Danville isn’t complete without a walk through the Eugene O’Neill Commemorative Park and Tao House. A quaint and historic downtown is entirely walkable with numerous boutiques and world class dining. Danville encourages outdoor activity and there’s always something going on. Street fairs, classic car show, plays and community concerts, something special is always on the calendar. For more than 130 years, Danville has experienced growth and change. The days of the small settlement with a blacksmith shop have evolved into a community with a variety of recreation, entertainment and job opportunities that provide residents with a comfortable life within the San Ramon Valley.

Residents of Danville are served by the San Ramon Valley Unified School District. The district encompasses 35 schools with an enrollment of only 28,000. The Athenian Schools, a private college preparatory school for grades 6 through 12 is also here.Danville schools are considered to be some of the best in the state with 98% attending college.
