Lafayette

The City of Lafayette is nestled in a little valley in Contra Costa County. This little city of only 23,000 residents is known for the upscale lifestyle of its residents. Lafayette has been through several names changes – from having no name to Brown’s Mill, Brown’s Corner, Acalanus, Dog Town, and Centerville. Even after the name was decided – it was changed again, from LaFayette to its current Lafayette.

Tucked in between Walnut Creek, Orinda, and Moraga, “Lamorinda”, as it’s known locally, is justly proud of its top-rated schools as well as a mild climate, small-town atmosphere and low crime rate. Only 25 minutes east of San Francisco, a wealth of recreational, entertainment, and shopping venues are within easy reach. Lafayette’s tree-lined streets encourage strolling the wide variety of shops, restaurants, and specialty stores.

The Lafayette Reservoir, a 92-acre site is open to public recreation with hiking, fishing, boating, and picnicking facilities. Stocked by the State Department of Fish and Game, thousands of trout, bluegill, black bass, black crappie, and catfish call the reservoir home. Privately owned rowboats, canoes, kayaks & sailboats are allowed at the reservoir. Rowboats and pedal boats are available for rent from the activity center. Surrounding the reservoir is picnic sites for families and groups and can be reserved in advance for a small fee.

There is always something to do in Lafayette, from Little Theater, to the Art & Wine Festival, the butterfly release to Stargazing and Ice Cream Socials. Lafayette encourages you to come and be a part of the community.

Homes in Lafayette are considered prime property, ranging from homes built between 1940 and 1969, followed by homes constructed from the 70’s through the 90’s. Both new and historic homes are there.
